3 Methods of Navigation
Pilotage
Dead Reckoning
Radio Navigation
Pilotage
Definition:   Navigation soley by the                           reference to visual landmarks.
Method:         - Flying to pre-selected checkpoints
        - High enough to be clear of obstacles     but low enough to see landmarks
                       - Take large checkpoints like roads,      bridges and airports.
Advantages:   - Easy to perform
         - Doesn’t require special instrument
Disadvantage: - Difficult with few landmarks
                        - In case of bad visibility it might be hard to see    landmarks
Dead Reckoning
Definition:   Navigation by predicting the movement of the helicopter        along a planned route. It is based on the computation of time,        speed, distance and direction.
Method:      - Use your E6B to calculate * True Heading
       * Magnetic Heading
* Compass Heading
* Flight time and Fuel
     - Fly the plotted course on the chart
     - Determine your course, altitude, wind direction-speed and               true airspeed
Remarks:    It is a combination between Pilotage and Radio Navigation
Radio Navigation
Definition: Navigation by the use of instruments in the aircraft and radio facilities on the ground.
VOR: VHF Omni directional Range
DME: Distance Measuring Equipment
NDB/ADF: Non Directional Beacon/Automatic Direction Finder
GPS: Global Positioning System
Navigation Instruments show direction distance to and from a destination.
