Definition:
Navigation soley by the reference to visual landmarks. |
Method: - Flying to pre-selected checkpoints |
- High enough to be clear of obstacles
but low enough to see landmarks |
- Take large checkpoints like roads,
bridges and airports. |
Advantages:
- Easy to perform |
- Doesn’t require special instrument |
Disadvantage: - Difficult with few landmarks |
- In case of bad visibility it
might be hard to see
landmarks |

Definition:
Navigation by predicting the movement of the helicopter
along a planned
route. It is based on the computation of time, speed, distance and direction. |
Method:
- Use your E6B to calculate * True Heading |
* Magnetic Heading |
* Compass Heading |
* Flight time and Fuel |
- Fly the plotted course on the chart |
- Determine your course, altitude, wind direction-speed and true airspeed |
Remarks:
It is a combination between Pilotage and Radio Navigation |
